Pens earn a clean sweep
Last night the Pens put an early end to the first best of seven series. They defeated the senators 3-1, with goals by malkin, rutu , and crasby. I hope the senators took nice picture they could hang on the wall for next year. The pens get a nice break until their next series, as they are the only team in the playoffs to pull off a clean sweep. I am hoping, along with thousands of pens fans, that this is the year we bring the cup back the pittsburgh.

Opening day of trout 4/12
I dont usually get to excited for the opening day of trout. I am not much of a trout fisherman, i like to catch bigger fish. Plus I usually dont eat what I catch so for me to catch a dozen 9-10 inch fish, i would rather catch 2 or three 20 inch bass. This year is different, i am going to break down and pay the extra 8 bucks for a trout stamp. This is the first year i dont have to work so i plan on going up to my camp rain or shine. If any body has any suggestion on how to doctor up some trout to eat i would appriciate it.

Its finally warming up!
I am so glad that it is finally getting warm outside. I can actually walk around in just a sweat shirt. I find myself in such a better mood when im not freezing cold as soon as I step outside. I especially like that all the trees and plants are beginning to turn green, it reminds me how much I enjoy being outside after a winter of hiding in my apartment. The thing I am most excited about is being able to take my boat out and go fishing. I will be out on the water at least 3 days a week once it gets alittle warmer and the Bass come out of their winter sanctuaries.

Pirates Pool it off in the 10th
Last night was the pirates first official game of the season. I didnt watch much of the begining of the game, I actually didnt turn it in til the bottom of the 9th. When i turned it on I got all excited because the pirates were actually winning 9-5. Just before i was about to turn the channel thinking they had the game in the bag, I see the other team gets a hit. This is when I said to myself "watch them give up this lead an loose" jokingly. Sure enough with two outs they give up two runs and there was a person on second and third. A ball was hit and what should have been a routine fly catch was dropped, giving up the tieing run. Luckily they pulled it of in the 10th, but i see this as what we can expect throughout the season from our pirates.

What happened to Pitt
We all had high hopes for this years pitt baskettball team, who finished the regular season strong. For some reason, no matter how strong the team seems going into march madness, they never live up to the expectations when the tournement actually comes around. On the 22nd of March, the number four seed Pitt lost in an upset to Michigan state, ending there hope of becoming national champions. Pitt jsut couldnt produce against the outstanding Defense of Michigan. I guess there is always next year as a number of our starters are returning.

March Maddness
The March maddness NCCA Baskettball tournement is finally here. I normally dont follow college basketball until this tournement. It seems every game is a good game cause teams no ther is no tomorrow if they lose. I usually fill out a bracket every year but i didnt get around to it this year. What i have found in previous years is that the people who feel they no everthing there is to no about college basketball are usually not the ones that win. The people who win are the ones who no nothing about it and just choose the teams they like better, or the girls who win by choosing there favorite color of jerseys.

Pens take the Flyers 7-1
I am a huge pens fan and i am alittle upset i missed the action on sunday. We played our rival team, and team i hate the most the philadelphia flyers. I unfortunatly had to work but i listened to most of the game on the radio. Even without our star player in the mix the pens were able to work together to destroy the competition. Evgeni Malkin and Petre Sykora both ahd two goals, with Sykora having a four point game after setting up both of Malkins goals. Mark-Andre Fleury also had a great game letting everybody know he's back in action saving 24 out of 25 shots. The Phili goalie may have done better if he just laid down infront of the goal.

Dunk Competition
The other day I watched the a repeat of the 2008 dunk competion. They were thinking about getting rid of the competition this, but i am glsd that they didnt. I watch it just about every year, and it amazes me how high those guys can jump, and how talented they are. My favorite dunk this year was a guy who dressed in a cape and a superman actually through the ball through the hoop from 10 feet away. In the end Nate Robinson from the Knicks won it, becoming the first sub 6ft champ every.

Car Inspection
I dont know if any of yuol have recently had to get your car inspected, but this year they are looking at everything. I recenlty put my 96 jeep cherokee in the shop thinking i was going to spend at the most $300 in repairs and inspection. I soon found out I am going to have to pay over $1000 dollars to get my car back. In previous years I would have an inspection station look at my car and tell me what was wrong with it. To save money i would but the parts and do the work myself. Since the person who inspects my car was a good friend of mine, he would often look past minor problems that didnt effect the way the car ran or its safety. This year i took it in with a small chip smaller that a dime and they are telling me I need a hole new windshield, when last year the same chip passed inpection. So if you have an older car or truck be ready for a ridiculous bill when you get it inpsected.

Pens Tickets are ridiculous
I remember a day when you could go to a local ticket master and but pens tickets in bulk. They were usually 20 to 50 dollars depending on the seats you got. Im sure there were more expensive tickets, but i never got real good seats. Just the other day i tried to but a couple of pens tickets, and you cant even get them at ticket master anymore. Now that the pens are playing good agian, season ticket holders have bouht most of the tickets. Just like the steelers, you have to get you tickets from someone who already has them. The cheapest tickets i found for a game that we play a decent opponent was about $90 a piece. I think the band wagon fans should step back and let the true hockey fans like me be able to afford tickets again.

Youtube
i am aware that i am behind the trend, but i just recently discovered youtube within the last couple years. Alot of the videos are just random people doing rediculous, but some how entertaining things, that some times get people famous. What i like youtube for is they also have videos on any interest you might have. Today i went on to see a clip of the NHL goalie that got sliced in the throat by a skate. I have watched hockey my entire life and i have never scene anything as distirbing as that in a sport. It only happened earlier this week and there was already hundreds of videos of the clip a few days later.

HD radios
I havent had the chance to get an HD radio for myself yet, but a few of my friends have bought them. There are a ton of different stations that you would never now about without the HD reciever. the beat thing about the HD radios is once buy the actual reciever, the stations themselves are free, unlike the different satellite radio companys. Just like the serius and xm radio compinies, the stations have little to no commercials and you are able to listen to alot more music, and alot less advertising.

Chineese New Year
Today is the day China celebrates its new year. I had the privalige to learn some of the physical activities the people participate in to celebrate a new year. My professor is from china so she had some experience in the activties. She showed us the dragon dance, were children would line up and wave scarves back and forth over thier heads in rythem with the music. She also show us tia chi, a form of slow motion martial art. It can be a type of meditation, but is mainly a way to relax the body. It looked to me like a mixture of martial arts and dance. It made me realize the importance of having an open mind to the diversity in you will encounter amoung your students, and it is good to have some knowlege of the culture.

Movement Education
Today in my monvement education class with Dr. Bian, I revisited a part of my past that I almost completely forgot about. It took me back to elementary school where I first participated in this activity. The professor brought out a huge parachute, and we used it to work on a number of locomotor skills. We did a number of activities that got out heart rate going. My favorite was when we all lifted it up, and selected a few people to run to the other side before it it fell. This is great activity that I never thought I could enjoy as a college student. If I every end up teaching at the elementary level, I will be sure to try and include this activity in my classroom.

A little about me
My name is Rick Jones, I am a 22 year old junior at Slippery Rock University. My major is Physical Education, and I hope to graduate and become a PE teacher as well as a wrestling coach. I graduated from North Allegheny high school in 2004. I spend my free time relaxing, and when its nice out I am on my boat fishing. My favorite thing to do is go camping, where i spend most of the time on the Allegheny river, either in my boat or my canoe. During Football season you will rarely see me outside, because I will be watching the Steelers.
